You're right of course, and I'd never never heard the Muddy Waters track before. But Plant copies every single intonation Marriott sings.

Saw the Small Faces at Billy Walker's Uppercut Club mid 60's and Packet of Three in The Bridgehouse mid '70s. Both great nights. Mrs oi's dad knew him from J60, flogged him the guitar in this video, she remembers him coming round to pick it up. Treat yourself......

He had a backing band called the "DT's" live at Dingwalls. Great sense of humour the boy.

From memory, am sure that at that gig in East Ham the set included
Four Day Creep The Fixer 30 Days in the Hole Honky Tonk Women I Don't Need No Doctor
Also saw him as a solo artist, backed by the all-stars (?) at a standing only gig at Cliffs pavilion in the late 70's, early 80's

Was that at the East Ham Granada in 1974?
I saw them there for the princely sum of £1.35 and still have the ticket stub.

It took Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood to replace his voice and guitar playing in the Small Faces ... that's how good he was. See him a few times at the old Bridge House. Absolutely underrated. .

My uncle used to run a football team that played on Wanstead Flats. The entertainment for the Christmas social let him down one year. Whilst walking home past the Ruskin Arms he heard a band practicing. He went upstairs and asked them if they wanted to play at the Christmas social. They said yeah ok.
That band were the Small Faces....and the rest (as they say) is geography....

Great singer. Watched humble pie in East Ham and he sang I don't need no doctor without the Mike. Unbelievable. Paul Rogers and Steve winwood were up there but I'd have him just in front

Check out Humble Pie, the band. SM was a vastly underrated guitarist and heavy rock vocalist. If you get a chance listen to the Filmore gigs back in the day. Didn't realise it was 25 years back.
